The best leaders know: people drive performance — not the other way around.
“Where are we on the numbers?” “Are we going to hit our numbers?” “The numbers, the numbers!”
I hear it in nearly every leadership coaching conversation. And yes — KPIs and results matter. But great leaders know this truth:
Sacrifice the numbers to save your people. Never the other way around.(Simon Sinek said it best.)
Look at Southwest Airlines. They prioritized their people — especially when times got tough. And in return, their employees rallied: low turnover, high engagement, and industry-leading results in performance, customer satisfaction, and profits.
The lesson? When leaders cut jobs, hours, and support first, they often trigger a downward spiral — lost loyalty, lower productivity, diminished innovation.
Leadership is about more than spreadsheets. It’s about impact — on the lives of the people you lead.
How do you balance numbers with people? What steps can we take to elevate human-centric leadership across our industries?
Let’s start the conversation.
