Give Them the Ball

Empower your team, then get out of their way.
One of my clients was struggling to scale. Every decision still ran through them — every approval, every fire, every “quick question. ”They were exhausted. So was their team.
During one session I asked, “What would happen if you stopped being the quarterback... and started being the coach?”
They laughed. Then they paused. Then they got it.
The best leaders I’ve worked with don’t just delegate — they trust. They empower people to make calls. They make sure their team knows the game plan and then let them play the game.
That week, my client handed off three major projects to their leadership team. Two were handled better than they expected. The third hit a bump — but the team course-corrected without panic.
Today, they’re running a tighter, happier, more productive company. And they finally get to take weekends off.
Let go. Hand over the ball. Coach from the sidelines. Trust shows up in what you don’t control.
