Sixty seconds of radio silence underground feels like an eternity. Sixty seconds chatting at the end of a shift? Gone in a blink.
Context changes everything. And in leadership, communication clarity is everything.
Miscommunication rarely comes from bad intent. It comes from assumptions—assuming your team knows what you mean, or that they’ll fill in the blanks like you would.
Here’s the catch: Because you understand the process, you may skip steps when delegating. But your team doesn’t share your context or mental shortcuts. Especially in remote or high-risk work environments, this disconnect can have real consequences.
The fix? Slow down. Be intentional. Confirm understanding. Invite questions—especially the “small” ones.
Clear communication isn’t about overexplaining. It’s about making sure everyone’s on the same frequency before things go quiet.
Because in leadership, just like underground, clarity can be the difference between calm and crisis.
