What Roblox Taught Me About Leadership

Yes, Roblox. Stay with me.
My daughters are big into Roblox—and while I originally saw it as just another screen-time black hole, I’ve come around.
Here’s what I’ve realized: Roblox isn’t just a game. It’s a platform where kids are building, leading, and learning in ways that look a lot like real life.
Design Thinking. Players imagine, test, and build their own worlds—learning to iterate quickly and improve based on feedback. Collaboration. You can’t run a Roblox game alone. Teams form. Roles emerge. Leadership happens. Problem-Solving. Whether it’s debugging code or navigating tricky social dynamics, kids are constantly troubleshooting. Project Management. Deadlines, goals, limited resources… sound familiar? Communication. From group chats to game instructions, clarity matters. And misunderstandings happen (and get resolved).
Watching my girls play—and lead—on Roblox reminded me that leadership doesn’t start with a title. It starts with curiosity, creativity, and the courage to try, fail, and try again. There’s more leadership in that pixelated world than you might think.
