What’s Your Leadership Style?

ree

The best leaders adapt, not copy.

When I first stepped into a leadership role, I endeavored to lead the way my best boss did. They were charismatic, energetic, and could light up a room. So, I tried to do the same.

It worked… until it didn’t.

The truth is there’s no single “right” way to lead. The best leaders adapt their style to the situation and the people they’re leading.

A startup founder driving innovation might thrive with a transformational style — inspiring people to think big and challenge the status quo.A frontline manager leading a team of technicians might lean on servant leadership — removing obstacles and supporting their team.

A McKinsey study found that leaders who adapt their style to fit the situation are 2.3x more likely to drive strong business performance. That’s because different people and challenges require different approaches. A new hire might need hands-on coaching. A seasoned pro might just need trust and space to deliver.

So don’t copy someone else’s leadership style. Figure out yours. Try different approaches. Adapt to the people in front of you.

What’s one leadership style you’ve tried — and made your own?
