Focus: Executive Presence

Coaching Client: General Manager

The Situation

A high-performing General Manager leading one of the company’s key operations faced a pivotal moment during a presentation to senior executives. Despite impressive operational results, their delivery failed to inspire confidence. The message was detailed but flat, leaving senior leaders questioning whether the GM was ready to operate at the next level.

The Challenge

The GM’s belief that “the work should speak for itself” had served them well in hands-on roles—but at this level, it became a barrier. They viewed polished presentations and executive communication as unnecessary or even self-promotional. Grounded in humility, this mindset unintentionally limited their influence and visibility with senior leadership.

The Nexus Coaching Approach

Working closely with the GM, we:

  • Clarified what executive presence truly means—communicating results with clarity and authority.

  • Coached the GM to shift from technical reporting to strategic storytelling.

  • Reframed presentations to address senior-level expectations while keeping detail available for deeper discussion.

  • Developed strategies for handling tough questions with poise and composure.

  • Helped the GM highlight team achievements without feeling self-promotional.

  • Built a relationship plan for headquarters visits and leadership forums, focusing on confidence, clarity, and connection.

The Transformation

With coaching support, the GM found their voice as a senior leader. They learned how to represent their team and operational success in a way that built confidence across the organization. Leadership visibility grew, and so did perceptions of their readiness for future advancement.

Client Reflection

“I used to think my job was just to get the work done. Now I realize part of my role is making sure people feel confident in what we’re doing. That shift changed everything.”
