Holiday Traditions That Build Stronger Teams

Why connection, belonging, and shared rituals make better leaders.
Every family has a holiday tradition. For my family, it’s bundling up, grabbing hot chocolate, and heading out to see the Santa parade every December — snowflakes, marching bands, twinkling lights, and all.
It’s a simple tradition, but it always reminds us of something important: everyone shows up for a reason. Some come for the atmosphere, some for the music, some for the memories… and some just for the candy canes.
Workplaces aren’t all that different this time of year. Whether it’s the office holiday party, the cookie exchange, or a gift-wrapping fundraiser, December is full of small moments that bring people together — if leaders pay attention to what people value.
Holiday traditions work because they create belonging, spark joy, and give people something to look forward to. Great leaders do the same thing year-round:- they create rituals that bring teams together- they honour what makes people unique- and they make space for connection beyond the daily tasks
If you want a stronger culture in January, start by nurturing connection in December.
