The magic word today is AUGMENT.
As in, “AI is absolutely not (about) displacing - it’s augmenting”.
Now, before you start rolling your eyes and saying, ‘Ralph - not another story about AI’, I want to focus on the IBM Chairman and CEO, Arvind Krishna.
He’s precisely the type of executive I coach.
Arvind is only the 10th CEO in IBM’s 112-year history.
He’s a techie, holding various roles and titles within IBM since joining them in 1990, and is recognized for his work in the fields of cloud computing, AI and open-source technologies.
But that’s not enough to get the top position in the company.
Arvind also has a reputation for his leadership style and for demonstrating his highly engaged empathetic approaches to major initiatives.
Balancing intellect with emotion isn’t easy - especially when Wall Street holds your feet to the fire every quarter for the latest innovations and business growth.
Arvind is adapting to the market conditions, and looking to augment his workforce with talented engineers, programmers and designers while harnessing the power of AI to replace roles that can be automated.
It’s controversial to hear the CEO say, “The more labor we got, especially if it’s not human based at all, we can create more GDP. We should all feel better about it,".
In a previous post, I cited the top global brands by reputation.
One of the key traits they demonstrate is innovation.
Another is employee engagement.
Arvind is clearly focused on both.
It’s not about the AI.
It’s about the people, who see the potential and power AI can deliver.
