The Summer Reset

July’s a smart time to check priorities before the fall rush begins.
By the third week of July, the year has a different rhythm. Q1 and Q2 are behind us. Q3 is already underway. People are taking vacations, kids are out of school, cottage weekends are in full swing, and the longer days can make everything feel a little more relaxed. But the work hasn’t gone away.
In mining, engineering, manufacturing, and energy, summer can be a tricky season. Teams are stretched. Key people are away. Projects are still moving. Deadlines still matter. And before you know it, September arrives with a full calendar and a long list of expectations.
That’s why July is such a good time for a leadership reset. Not a massive strategy overhaul. Not a three-day offsite. Just a practical pause to ask a few important questions:
Are we still focused on the right priorities? What’s slipping? Where are we depending too heavily on one person? What do we need to adjust before the pace picks up again?
Strong leaders don’t wait until things are urgent to course-correct. They use quieter moments to get clear, realign the team, and make sure people understand what matters most. Summer may feel slower, but it can reveal a lot.
The leaders who pay attention now will help their teams enter the fall with more focus, less confusion, and stronger momentum.
