Momentum Isn’t Guaranteed

Why May feels harder than it should
January starts with energy. Plans are clear. Goals are set. Everyone’s moving.
By May, it’s different. The work is real now. The pressure is clearer. And the energy that carried teams through Q1 starts to fade.
I see this a lot. Not because teams aren’t capable — but because momentum isn’t something you set once and forget. It needs attention.
This is where leadership matters most. Not in the big moments, but in the quieter ones. When things feel a little heavier. When progress slows. When people start to lose sight of the bigger picture.
Strong leaders don’t wait for mid-year reviews to adjust. They check in early. They reconnect the work to the purpose. They reset expectations where needed. And they recognize that not everyone is experiencing the same energy shift. Some are still pushing hard. Others are starting to feel the strain. Both need to be seen.
Because momentum isn’t automatic. It’s built — and rebuilt — over time.
Where might your team need a reset to keep things moving forward?
