Q3: Finish the Quarter, Don’t Just Survive It

A strong finish shouldn’t leave your team too exhausted to start again.

The end of a quarter can create some strange leadership behavior. Suddenly, everything becomes urgent. Targets that have been sitting there for months need to be hit in three days. Reports multiply. Meetings get added. And everyone hears some version of: “Let’s just push through.”

Sometimes a push is necessary. But there’s a difference between finishing strong and dragging everyone across the line. Q4 starts the next morning.

If the final week of Q3 leaves your team exhausted, frustrated, and resentful, you haven’t really finished strong. You’ve borrowed energy from the next quarter.

Strong leaders pay attention to how the finish happens. What truly has to be done now? What can wait? Where does the team need support? Are we solving an actual business problem, or are we creating chaos because we failed to plan earlier?

There are times when everyone needs to dig in. People usually understand that. What wears teams down is when emergency mode becomes the normal operating model.

So, as Q3 closes, push where it matters. Protect what matters too. The goal isn’t simply to cross the line. It’s to arrive at the next one ready to run.
