September Is Coming

Now’s the time to clear the noise before the pace picks up

August has a funny rhythm. The work doesn’t necessarily stop. The projects keep moving. The deadlines are still real. The customers still need answers. But the people around the work can be harder to pin down. Someone’s away. Someone’s covering. Someone’s waiting on an answer from someone who’s finally taking a proper break.

On paper, it still looks like there’s plenty of time. The days are long. People are trying to squeeze in one more cottage weekend, one more family trip, one more week away before everything ramps back up.

But in business, September has a way of arriving quickly.

Before you know it, meetings will be back on the calendar. Projects will keep moving. Expectations will be high. And teams will be trying to regain momentum while catching up on the decisions, details, and loose ends that drifted through August.

That’s why I think late summer is a great time for a simple reset. Not a massive strategy session. Just a practical conversation.

What are the three priorities that matter most this fall? Where are we unclear? Do we have the right people and resources lined up? What can we stop doing, simplify, or push back?

In industries where clarity affects performance, safety, morale, and execution, August is a good time to reduce the noise before the pace picks up again.

Because September always comes faster than we think.
