You Can’t Always Get What You Want…

But self-awareness helps you lead with what you’ve got 🎸
To quote The Rolling Stones: “You can’t always get what you want. But if you try sometimes, you just might find—you get what you need.”
I had a recent coaching session with a leader who said, “I know I’m direct—but I didn’t realize it was shutting people down.” That insight? It changed everything.
Self-awareness isn’t just about knowing your strengths. It’s about recognizing how your tone, pace, and presence impact others. It’s noticing when your ‘default mode’ doesn’t match the moment. And it’s being open to adjusting—not to be less of yourself, but to be more effective.
When leaders lead with reflection and intention, teams feel heard. Collaboration gets easier. And trust starts to build.
So next time you’re reflecting, ask: How did I show up? And how did that feel for the people around me? That’s where real leadership starts.
