Not Everyone Feels the Shift at the Same Time

Energy returns unevenly — strong leaders notice the difference

By mid-April, most teams have settled into the longer days. The clocks have changed. The mornings are a little brighter. There’s a sense — at least on the surface — that energy is coming back. But not for everyone.

Some people are still dragging themselves out of bed before sunrise. Still adjusting. Still carrying the weight of a long winter, a heavy Q1, or simply a full plate outside of work. From a leadership standpoint, this is where assumptions creep in. We start to think: “We’re past that stretch now. Everyone should be back up to speed.” But energy doesn’t reset on a calendar. It returns unevenly.

Strong leaders pay attention to that. They notice who’s re-engaging quickly — and who isn’t. They create space for people to find their rhythm again. They don’t mistake slower energy for lower commitment. Because momentum isn’t uniform. And how you lead through this stretch matters.

Where is your team right now — fully re-engaged, or still finding its way back? And are you leading to the calendar… or to the people in front of you?
