The Fourth-Quarter Reset

Finishing strong doesn’t mean doing everything.
October marks the beginning of the final quarter of the year.
For many leaders, that means looking at the goals set back in January and realizing there’s suddenly a lot left to accomplish—and not much year left to accomplish it in.
The instinct can be to push harder.
More urgency. More meetings. More priorities added to an already full list.
But this is often when I encourage leaders to do the opposite: pause and prioritize.
Take a hard look at what your team committed to this year and ask:
What still matters?
What will have the greatest impact?
What can realistically be accomplished before year-end?
And perhaps most importantly: What can we let go?
Prioritization isn’t about lowering expectations. It’s about making sure your people are spending their limited time and energy on the work that matters most.
A strong fourth quarter doesn’t require checking every box you created nine months ago.
Sometimes the best way to finish strong is to decide which boxes no longer need checking.
Before the year-end sprint begins, give your team permission to focus.
